So Much To Say-- But No Time To Say It

I feel like there are dozens of things I could be blogging about right now.. but I NEVER can find time to sit down and write...

Bed Time-- The last two and a half weeks have been a blur-- first a double ear infection for Brixton that we didn't realize was the problem for like three days (call us parents of the year, right). That resulted in the worst week of sleeplessness EVER, even counting when he was little. Screaming and not sleeping. He would fall asleep as long as he could be sitting up. Yes, I did sleep sitting up in our bed with him leaned against me one night. Super uncomfortable? You betcha! But we slept! So, we've been trying to re-sleep train him. Talk about a nightmare.
For some reason, this crazy little boy who loves to jump (even though his feet don't leave the ground)...
hates to sleep. (He does love to stand over the vent and says, "I cold.")I'm open to any suggestions on this one. Crying it out doesn't work for us. He's too stubborn. He'll cry for like two hours EVERY night before eventually falling asleep. That's normal you say... well, is it normal for him to do that each night for like two weeks! I can't do that so we don't try anymore. Our new method is that we just go in and tell him to lay back down. And then (the part I really hate) we Shsh him, over and over again. We even downloaded an Itunes track that sounds like shshing. It's helped some. When he starts crying we just say Sh! it seems to be working. Last night I went in and he was standing up and we had a funny little conversation.

I said, "You need to lay down. It's time to go to sleep."

He said, "Noooo. (really whiny voice) I no sleep. I plaaaay."

I said, "You want to play?"

He said, "Yesh."

I said, "No, it's not time to play it's time to sleep."

He said, "I no sleep. I want play. I want play."

To which I said, "Too bad, it's time to sleep. Now, lay down."

I then proceeded to count sheep to him until 100. He was still awake but calm and fell asleep not long after.

Tangent: I went to the JBF sale Monday to find a coat and a Halloween costume. This is going to be the cutest lion EVER!! Yup, I'll dress him up this year -- especially after my resistance last year that I talked about in this post. This past weekend we went to my mom and dad's and my "brother" whom I haven't seen in FOREVER showed up! It was super exciting for everyone, but especially for my parents. Back story... I grew up in Chickasha on a quiet little street. Next door was an older lady who was raising her grandson, Kris. Kris is about 8-9 years older than me, but was always at our house. From the time he was a kid until he graduated high school Kris spent many days with us and was like a brother. In fact, people don't really think I look like my sisters, but Kris was blond and people thought we were related. Sometime after high school or his first year of college he disappeared. We never knew what happened to him. I had searched for him on Facebook before but never found him.. then a few months ago he logged on and became friends with all of us. I think he's had a rough few years, but seems to have his life on a decent track now. Well, my sister joined the National Guard (stay with me) and we were having this going away lunch for her. She invited Kris but didn't tell my parents. He showed up pounding on their front door. I sure wish I could have seen the look on my mom's face when she opened that door! My parents always wished they could have adopted Kris, but never thought it was possible. Turns out he always wished they would have adopted him. So, now, years later we are all back together and I think Kris will be a part of our family again. And in case you missed it.. my sister, the one in the yellow... joined the National Guard.

Maybe someday I'll get to the house stuff. For now, we bought new bedroom doors and they finally came in! Also, we'll be making an IKEA/Dallas trip in September. Hopefully that will help us get a few things for the house to help it get in shape.
