Here it is ... the awful bush.
The house behind us, that we share the majority of our fence line with has this bush growing along the fence line. The house used to have an old lady in it, that we never met. However, it's been vacant for more than a year now and is the source of some big legal battle between her family. In the meantime, the bush is growing out of control, breeding wasps and pushing the fence over to where it will eventually fall in our yard. Not only that, they never mow the yard in front or back or trim the other plants. It also has a bunch of No Trespassing signs on the house, which make the neighborhood look great! :(
The gate is locked so we can't just go over and cut it or rip it out. Today I saw someone over there and ran over as they were pulling out of the driveway. It was the attorney for the people who currently own the house. He told me to do whatever I need to do, he suggested I pour something on it to kill it.
Good thing I saw that guy today, because I was about to call the city and complain about it. I talked to one of the lady's family members three weeks ago about it and she never called back. I even offered to find some people to come help us tear it out. We trim our side, but that actually only makes the it worse as far as the fence is concerned.
The attorney said he had just met someone that had made an offer on the house so hopefully within the next month it will be owned by someone else.. someone who will take care of it.

You should totally call the city. They will make the owners take care of it immediately or pay a fine. It happened to my mother in law!!! Why should you have to buy a TON of chemicals to slowly kill it? That could take a while anyway. I say call!!
I think requires a covert operation. I'm talking dressed-in-black-shroud-of-darkness kind of thing- doing this before the house has a new owner. Chop it down and put a stem and root killer on it. Our neighbors had a trumpet vine (worst plant ever) that we chopped down with them (nothing covert) and put that stuff on it. We fought a few sprouts the next spring but I haven't seen any this year. The other option I'd suggest is do you know anyone at a news station that could report on such things?
I'd say call Scott Hines! He'd be in your corner for sure. I have no thoughts - except to just jump the fence and start wacking away. Or just wait for the new owner to do something about it.
I would jump that fence, girl. No one would ever know..... :)
If the attorney said you can do whatever you need to do, i would jump the fence and rip it all out before there is a new owner. I think it would be awkward to wait until the new neighbors arrived and then ask them to remove it.
