I did it!! I primed the basement floor today!
I think I have been afraid of this step because there is no turning back now. I have to paint it because the primer stays sticky until it has some sort of top coat on it.
I was a little worried about the floor after the last post because there were a couple of areas that looked wet/greasy. The other day I got the idea to just wipe them down with a Clorox wipe and sure enough it worked. The greasy look disappeared and the floor underneath actually turned white. I ended up wiping down the whole floor with Clorox wipes to get it cleaned. Then this morning I started priming, cutting in the edges first. Then came the fun part.
I had read online that is was less mess to just pour the primer/paint on the floor and roll it from there. I was a little nervous about this, but tried it and it worked great. It looks a little milky, but dries clear.
And then I painted myself out of the room.
Now, the wait begins. I have to wait 8 hours before I can start painting the top coat (but not beyond 30 days since we all know I don't complete projects quickly). It will take 2-4 coats, depending on the final color we want. Then I have to put sealer on top. After that is another waiting game. We have to wait THREE days before we can allow "heavy" traffic on the floor or move things back in, mainly the washer and dryer. The good news is we can walk on the floor, "light traffic," after 24 hours, which means I can walk to my car in the garage in the middle of the night.
Hopefully I will have another update in a few days with the FINISHED PRODUCT!!! I'm getting a little excited.
