Bye Bye Brownie

Last week we made the sad decision to put our dog Brownie down.

Nate and I have had Brownie since before we were married. She lived with my parents for the first year of her life and then joined us after our wedding. She would have been 13 this summer.
Brownie was our first "kid." We, especially Nate, loved her like she was our child. Nate and Brownie were best buds. Nate says she was the first dog he's ever had from birth to death.
She helped us welcome both of our babies home and was just a great dog. She loved to give high-5s and would "die" if you said, "Brownie would you rather be a Sooner or a dead dog."
Brownie's death was not just sad because we lost her, but for me it was sad because it was the end of 22 years of ownership of a dog within her line.
When I was 12 years old my parents gave me my first dalmatian, Lucky Rolle. Rolle lived a good life and eventually we bred her and she had puppies. My parents kept one of those puppies and eventually bred her. Brownie was one of those puppies. She and a brother were what's called liver spotted, meaning they had brown spots instead of black. It's a gene mutation that happens in dalmatians. People always asked if she was a pointer, but she was full blood dalmatian.
We will miss Brownie.
Our house is definitely quieter without her. We still have Zoey, but for now we have no plans to add another dog.
