Last night Brixton went up to the hall and was making a picture that he did not want us to see. He later came down and was ready to show it to me, but his attitude quickly changed and he seemed almost afraid to show it to me. I was pretty confused. He then started saying that he thought that maybe it was mean and that it would hurt our feelings. It was hard to not sort of giggle at his timid attitude. He then started to say he had gotten mad at us and made a sign for his door but that he thought it might get him in trouble. So, up the stairs we went.
This is what was taped to his door. It reads from the bottom up. It says "No Mom Dad Allowed In My Room."

Apparently he was upset that we were telling him to be patient and wait for dinner. No snacks. Let me point out the kid had already eaten a piece of pizza at his aunt's house before coming home so we knew he wasn't starving even though it was late. He said he got really mad. He then felt like since he put the sign up he couldn't take it down. It was interesting to watch him navigate his emotions. I think making the sign helped him to feel better. He originally went to his room saying he wanted to rest and he told us that's when he got the idea to make the sign. I guess his frustration just stewed a little.
He was very apologetic as we looked at the sign and kept saying "sorry" in a sad, almost tearful voice.
We told him that we weren't mad and that we forgave him. We told him that we were glad he changed his mind about letting us in his room. We then told him all the things he would have to do or miss if we couldn't go in his room; laundry, night time prayers and kisses, races and other things.
He then decided he wanted to make another sign for his door.
He wanted help with this one, so I helped him.
This is how the new signs hang on the door, top to bottom.
My favorite part of this whole thing was that he worked so hard on the signs, trying to do all of the spelling himself by just sounding out the words. I love it! In fact, part of me wants to keep the signs because this is the first time I've really seen him try to do this without any help.
He starts Kindergarten tomorrow. I can't wait to see how much he will learn this next year.
Today he wanted to make a sign for his sister's room saying "No Boys Allowed." Glad he already is watching out for her.
I took this picture thinking how it was not too long ago he was the one sleeping in that crib. Excuse me while I go cry.
Oh, and this morning he showed me that he's getting one of his 6 year molars in. I had no idea! That tooth is almost all the way in and looked like it should have hurt at some point. He has not been bothered at all.
