I realized tonight that both of our "kids" have these.. ummm.. extra nipples. ( I put nubbin as the title because I thought the other word was a little weird for a blog title!)
Anyway, yes, Brixton has a third and fourth nipple! Poor kid... but turns out Brownie has an extra one too (or she's missing one, not really sure. But there is one without a match).
Brixton's pediatrician said it's totally normal. I noticed them when he was newborn, so I asked at one of his appointments. She laughed and said that they were indeed extra nipples. However, she said really a lot of kids have them doctors just don't point them out because it freaks parents out, especially dads. She said that when he gets bigger they won't really be noticeable, especially if he's a hairy guy when he's bigger. BUT if he is hairy there's a chance that hair will grow in a circle (I thought that was pretty funny). The good thing is he's not a girl with these because the doctor said little girls who have them can actually have milk produced through them when they have their own kids later on.
We haven't talked to the vet about Brownies.
Someday Brixton will hate me for this post.. I couldn't get them to show up in a picture but here's his belly. He has one on each side about two inches below his actual nipple.
In case you are wondering if you search Nubbin on wikipedia they redirect you to this... "A supernumerary nipple is an additional nipple occurring in mammals, including humans. Often mistaken for moles, supernumerary nipples are diagnosed at a rate of 1 in 18 humans."
It says they appear along the vertical milk lines anywhere from your armpit to your groin... but then it says they can appear as far aways as your foot!!!
Famous people who admit to having them... Carrie Underwood and Mark Wahlberg (those are the only two I knew)
Wow... can't believe I actually posted this.. Hope you enjoyed the random info.!

Wow I had no idea it was that common! I have been calling my newly popped out belly button my nubbin...:)
Liesel has an extra set of nubbins too. Hopefully they won't be noticeable when she grows up.
Oh my. I looked at the link, and the picture of them look just like moles. I would have never thought a nipple!?!? I wonder if I have them...I'll have to do a thorough check! haha
I had a friend in college who had one. We were all scientist geeks and were fascinated!
so I've been blog stalking and found yours! My youngest has always had a weird little bump in the middle of his chest that I always thot looked like a third one, but I never said anything about it to a doctor! Interesting!
