A Little Vacation

We spent most of last week off in Kentucky on vacation. We left after work the Thursday before last -- and drove straight to Little Rock, Arkansas.

That night Brixton was SUPER excited to sleep in a hotel bed. He made sure we knew how "cozy" it was. Funny since almost every other night in a hotel he insisted on sleeping on the floor.
From Little Rock we went on with a little rest and then a stop in Nashville for lunch and to get his "wiggles" out.
From Nashville it was on to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. I had never been to a cave before. I thought it was awesome. Brixton however talked big until we were inside. About two minutes in he was done and wanted out! We basically carried him through the rest of the tour. He did agree to go on a second tour the next morning. By that time my father in law had joined us so we took turns carrying him.

He preferred checking out the deer at the hotel.
From there we went to Moorehead, KY to see Nate's extended family. His dad is one of 11 so they all get together once a year. Sunday was the extended beyond the 11 family reunion with a stop here --

This is the house, in Isonville, where Nate's grandfather was born. It was pretty neat to go inside and look around.
The big reunion
And I tried Pickled Corn -- weird, I know. It wasn't bad. I would eat it again, but I don't know that I would actually request it ever.
After the reunion was more vacation. We went from there to Lexington, KY -- stayed one night and went to the Kentucky Horse Farm. We got to ride a trolley and Brixton was bit by a pony. He stuck his finger through a little hole and the horse bit him and then his finger was sort of stuck. Once unstuck he cried and cried and the park ranger had to track us down to file an incident report. They now know our names, phone number and where we live. Good news, his finger survived.
A random big chair at the horse farm.
Nate showing Brixton how to pose on the fence for a photo and Brixton's interpretation.
Riding a pony -- not the one that bit him. He was pretty excited.

From Lexington it was off to Louisville. We stayed with Nate's aunt and uncle -- Brixton played a slot machine over and over at their house and we went to Churchill Downs where the Kentucky Derby happens every year.
We also went to the Louisville Slugger Museum and Brixton got a bat with his name and the #3 on it.

Then it was to St. Louis. Nate and Brixton road to the top of the arch. I don't like heights or being confined in a little vessel while going to those heights so I stayed on the ground.
Brixton was trying to scare this big bear. He showed me his scary face too.

That night we went to the St. Louis Cardinals vs Cincinnati Reds game. B was excited to sit in seat 4.

After each inning when the players would warm up we took B to see if he could get a ball. He never did and cried every time. We bought him a ball before we went back to the hotel.

Elevators were a lot of fun on this trip -- We taught Brixton to have a dance party every time the doors close. It was hilarious -- great memory!
And finally headed home -- the last day was 8-9 hours straight in the car. Pretty awful. But this kid is great. I'll have another post about all the ways we kept him entertained. This was his face when I told him we were in Oklahoma City.

We had such a great time, but were definitely glad to be out of the car.

1. OK so I assume it's a small town named after the family? It can't be a coincidence that he's from Isonville right?
2. How cool that you got to see that house!

4. Love Brixton on the fence pose :)
5. What a fun vacation!
