Goodbye 1964!!

Project Kitchen is begining!! I.Am.So.EXCITED!!!
We are actually hiting a guy for this and have saved our money to get it done faster than we could ever dream of doing it.
Here is the current dining room/kitchen space. The funky light on the high wall is from my panarama camera. Weird. Anyway, we are adding a ceiling.

Why cover those beautiful beams you ask. Well, those beams and decking are actually the backside of our roof. There is ZERO, zip, nada, no insulation in the ceiling. With such a large room it is impossible to cool in the summer and loses heat in the winter. We are leaving the beams in the living room just dropping this half of the room, adding insulation and new lighting to the kitchen. I'm totally keeping the big flower light. The ceiling will still be high, close to 10-feet.

I cannot wait to see this horrible kitchen ceiling go. It is what I am most excited about! Goodbye ugly plastic light things!!

This is what is currently over the kitchen ceiling. A big void with no insulation. This space steals warm air.

I cannot wait. This is only step one. The framing is being done this week and then we have to get new lighting worked out and THEN drywall (which we are also paying someone to do). We have new cabinets and we will install those ourself.

I am willing to hire someone for two reasons: time saved (you've seen how "fast" we get things done), and it will look great. I want it to look amazing in case we ever move and I can't guarantee I do amazing work so hire a guy for this I will.

If you need a great contractor let me know. This guy has done work for friend's of ours and is super nice.

OR -- if you know someone that wants to buy some cabinets we are selling the old ones. They really aren't bad just this layout doesn't work for our house and so we are switching it up.

I'm SOOOO EXCITED!!!

That is exciting! Take lots of before & after shots! I think your ceiling looks really neat but I understand about wanting it to be warm - what were they thinking when they built it??? Oh yes, nothing about comfort...
