Pinterest Meal: I've never bought this before

Trying out new meals has me buying lots of ingredients I've never used before. Little did I know at the beginning of the month I would end up buying BEER, for the first time EVER. Yup. That's right. I have NEVER bought a beer, nor have I ever drank a beer. However, the Chicken and Spinach Flautas called for 16 ounces of beer.
So, there it is. My first purchased beer. I don't know if there is a beer that is best for cooking, but I just went to the gas station and bought pretty much the only single beer I could find. Seems like at the store they only come in 3, 6 or 12+ packs. I only needed one. I considered just substituting some other liquid for the beer, but Nate told me just to try it. He said if I used something else then I couldn't really judge the recipe fairly.

These flautas were REALLY good. I don't know if I will make them again, because they were a little time consuming. Nate said he hopes I do make them again because they were so good.
First, you cook the meat in beer and water and then you pour out almost all the liquid. You use what's left to cook down the fresh spinach. You then put the meat, spinach and some cheese on a tortilla that is cut in half and roll it up.
You then bake them and serve them up. They are pretty filling and don't need much else to go with them. We just had some chips and salsa.

I must say, I'm actually proud of myselft that I made it to 30 before buying my first beer. I even told my mom and she laughed at me.

LOL! That's great to be able to say that. I think I maybe bought some to make beer bread once.

I'm with Robin -- congrats! I think I was 29 when I drove from my house in Midwest City to NORMAN to go to a liquor store for wine so I could try a fancy French recipe -- trying to impress the man I ended up snagging. Never had purchased any such thing either, and REALLY did not want to run into someone I knew!

Ditto. Not many people have that on their list of accomplishments!! The beer...not the pinterest recipe. Keep up the good work!

I love the taste of beer in food - beer cheese for example. So we might have to try this recipe. I didn't know you could even buy just one beer. That's perfect for cooking.
